Segregated Schools Map

This series of interactive maps shows the racial and ethnic composition of schools by county. This map indicates that in spite of the fact that students of color occupy the majority of public school students for the first time in US history, schools are more likely than ever to be segregated. As of 2011 48% of all public school students were poor* and this year, students of color will account for the majority of public school students for the first time in US history. What is surprising about these shifts is that they are not leading to more diverse schools.
