Owner, Renter or Vacant

Owner, Renter or Vacant Map

This map depicts whether each neighborhood contains more housing that is occupied by owners, renters, or is vacant. The predominant type of housing is based on simple majority, meaning whichever category has the greatest count earns the “predominant” label. The strength of predominance is set to “percent of total,” meaning that darker colors have a greater percent of total than lighter colors. What is interesting about this map is how rental markets are structured in various urban areas. The county-level map of the entire U.S. shows an interesting pattern as well. This is a good backdrop map for any discussion of city-wide housing patterns.
