County of Los Angles Citizens Redistricting Commission Maps
When Los Angeles County needed to produce new redistricting maps, based on the 2020 Census results, the county turned to the Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC), an independent organization made up of 14 diverse residents who are able to interpret and apply relevant laws and have the necessary analytics skills to create new maps based on the census data. As a citizen-driven organization the CRC and county provided free GIS tools for all residents and allowed anyone to submit a proposal map. Through a series of public meetings LA County residents could provide feedback on the different maps and make their voices heard in the redistricting process, while also reviewing the maps online. The CRC eventually incorporated this feedback into one final district map, which was approved December 12, 2021.
