CITIES TODAY: CHICAGO TARGETS MORE INCLUSIVE SERVICES
Last January, Chicago became the first city in the country to pilot a digital inclusion tool that tracks the accessibility and inclusiveness of digital and smart services. Called the Smart City Digital Inclusion Maturity Model, cities can use this tool to measure accessibility and benchmark their progress in making sure that all users have equal access to city services.
SMART CITIES DIVE: KNIGHT FOUNDATION OFFERS $1M FOR INNOVATIVE DATA COLLECTION IDEAS
The Knight Foundation wants to change the way communities engage with open data, and is sponsoring an open call for innovative ideas that will help residents use that data more effectively and skillfully. Many people don’t know how to use the data that is provided by their city, so Knight hopes to close that gap by sponsoring ideas that will teach data skills and increase civic engagement.

This research brief explores 18 months of data from dockless bike shares in the metro Boston area. Ridership trends, rides over time, and trip destinations are graphically displayed in this interactive report, which provides local policy-makers with new insights into micro-mobility in the region.

Data, technology, and artificial intelligence are increasingly important in the fight against climate disasters. The Crisis Technologies Innovation Lab at Indiana University, founded this year, will build tools and visualizations to assist first responders and city planners as they assess, fight, and recover from disasters.
