INSIDE INDIANA BUSINESS: USING DATA TO LOWER INDIANA INFANT MORTALITY RATE
Indiana’s infant mortality rate is 7.3 percent, which is the seventh highest in the country according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Governor Eric Holcomb wants to significantly lower this rate by 2024, and the state chapter of the nonprofit Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society put together a data competition to support this goal. Called the Healthy Mom + Baby Datapalooza, participants will conduct data analyses to inform state policy on obstetrician services and maternal health, with the top two finishers winning more than $3,000.
HOLLYWOOD GAZETTE: NEW TECHNOLOGY BRINGS EASY DRIVING
Officials in Broward County, Florida, are testing new technology to speed up traffic, reduce intersection congestion, and improve road safety. Using a variety of sensors and cameras, transportation officials will analyze near-accidents to rank intersections for safety enhancements. The technology will also show road hazards so that officials can more efficiently clear roads. And in cars that are equipped to read the sensor data, drivers will be alerted to traffic light timing, with the hope of moving them more quickly through green lights.

KRDO: COLORADO DRIVER LICENSES, IDS CAN NOW BE CARRIED DIGITALLY
Thanks to a simple barcode scan, residents with the MyColorado app can now verify their age and identity on their cell phones. Both a driver’s license and a state ID card can be scanned and uploaded into a profile on the app. Service providers for digital identification maintain that these cards are more secure and have stronger authentication; Colorado first piloted digital IDs in 2017.
