Data Feeds: Democratization of Government Data 2009 Innovations in American Government Awards Winner

In 2009, the District of Columbia's Data Catalog and Feeds program won an Innovations in American Government Award. Data Catalog and Feeds was the first government program in the U.S. to make virtually all local operational data available to the public, and make it available in its raw form rather than in static reports in which the data has already been filtered. In addition to fostering civic engagement, the program significantly improved government performance and lessened the burden on city infrastructure.
