Due to changing environmental pressures, fewer than one percent of all Chinook salmon eggs actually survive to reach maturity today. This Cascade, crafted by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, explores the plight of Chinook populations in the Snohomish River system. It relies on a clever visual motif-a shrinking pile of salmon eggs-to illustrate the species' high mortality rate, due to changing environmental conditions.
