The Beijing-based Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) engages the public in data, and holds governments and manufacturers accountable, through maps that show air and water quality across China. The map gathers the data and puts it into the context of compliance with the environmental standards that the country has set, making it painfully clear who is living up to standards and who is falling behind.
