The Seattle area is one of the fastest growing and most expensive housing markets in the county. In an effort to mitigate rental and housing burdens on residents, the city council loosened regulations on accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in the city in 2019. The Office of Planning and Community Development developed an interactive map and dashboard that shows guidelines for ADUs and combines zoning, permitting, and property data so that residents can easily understand if and how they could add an ADU on their property.
