 The Neighborhood Knowledge Partnerships (NKP) program, a project of the City of Los Angeles and UCLA, was an Innovations in American Government Awards finalist in 2004. The NKP program, conceived in 1996 to restore the natural partnership between institutions of public higher education and their surrounding communities, launched several projects aimed at collecting and using data to help lower-income and disabled communities in Los Angeles.
